CCA 2013 Spring Conference and WHO Awards

The CCA 2013 Spring Conference was a huge success. It took place at Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina. You can view or download the Spring Conference Brochure if you'd to review the schedule of events and workshops.

Here are some highlights from conference:

  • It was election season, and many new members filled leadership roles, including Lynette Nyaggah (CCA President) and Brad Reynolds (Vice President). Look for updated information in our About CCA section under Officers and Board Members.
  • Many CCA members were honored with WHO (and other) awards. Look for updated information in the Awards & Honors section.
  • Our CCA Communications Committee Book Club sponsored another presentation and workshop on labor history in America. Author, professor, and international organizer Dana Frank joined us as we talked about her book 'Three Strikes'.

Upcoming CCA Conferences

Fall 2013, October 11-13, Double Tree San Jose
Winter 2014, February 7 to 9, Doubletree Maya Hotel, Long Beach
Spring 2014, April 10-12, Marriott Manhattan Beach
Fall 2014, October 10-12, Holiday Inn Sacramento

CCA is pleased to offer three distinct and timely statewide conferences each year. Our Fall Conference is always held in early October and highlights bargaining implications in the development of the conference theme. We call this our CCA Fall Bargaining Conference

Our Winter Conference is held in early February and highlights lobbying and contract enforcement issues. While we wish that politics did not play a role in education, we know that having a strong lobbying effort and strong local trustees are essential to a healthy college campus. This conference highlights the political accomplishments of distinguished legislators that have been friendly toward community college issues. We call this our CCA Winter Advocacy Conference.

Our Spring Conference is held in mid April and highlights membership accomplishments and various aspects of keeping our members engaged in the process of being the strongest local chapters possible. We also highlight our "W.H.O." (We Honor Our Own) Awards. This is a special program of honoring our own local and state heroes. We call this our CCA Spring Membership Conference.

Recent Events Of Note

Summer Institute
July 31–Aug 5, 2011
University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles

CCA Bargaining Teams joined us at CTA’s Summer Institute. CCA has for the past four years sponsored an opportunity for our locals to be stronger by providing complete reimbursement if the entire Bargaining Team from your chapter attends the Bargaining Strand at the Summer Institute Conference. If you are interested in sending the entire Negotiation team to UCLA next year, contact Bonita Lovell (blovell@cta.org or 916-288-4921).
